When your link expires, your files are permanently deleted from our servers, and the link stops working for everyone. There's no hidden archive, no backup copy, and no recycle bin to restore from. Expiry is a clean, final cutoff. If you still need to share the files, the answer is simple: upload them again to create a fresh share.
What "expired" really means
Expiry isn't just the link going quiet. It's the file being removed. Once a share reaches its expiry, two things happen together:
- The files are deleted from our servers.
- The link becomes dead, showing a "no longer available" message.
Anyone who clicks after that, including you, sees the same thing: nothing to download. This is by design. The shorter your files exist online, the smaller the window for anything to go wrong.
Why deletion is a good thing
Files that sit around forever are files that can leak. By clearing them at expiry, ShareIt.onl keeps your footprint small. Is there any archive or backup?
No. We don't keep a copy after expiry for "just in case." When files are deleted, they're gone from the active service. Here's a plain comparison:

- Keep your own copy of the original files on your device.
- Re-share when needed by uploading the files again to make a new link.
- Tell recipients the deadline so they download in time.

While your share is live, the files sit on our servers so we can deliver them, protected in transit by HTTPS. To be straight with you: ShareIt.onl is not zero-knowledge end-to-end encrypted.
Expiry-based deletion limits how long your data exists and removes it fully when the time is up, which is a real privacy win. It's not the same as a system where only you and your recipient ever hold the keys. Knowing this helps you match the tool to the sensitivity of what you're sending.
