An upload that stops partway is frustrating, but the cause is almost always one of three simple things: you went over the size limit, your internet connection dropped, or the browser tab closed before the transfer finished. The good news is that each one has a fast fix, and none of them means your files are lost. They are still safe on your device, ready for another try.
Let's walk through why uploads fail and exactly how to get your share moving again.
The three most common causes
Most failed uploads trace back to the same short list. Knowing which one hit you makes the fix obvious.
| Cause | What you'll notice | Quick fix |
|---|---|---|
| Over the limit | Upload stops or is refused before it starts | Send 10 files or fewer, 200 MB or less |
| Dropped connection | Progress bar stalls, then errors out | Move to stable Wi-Fi and retry |
| Tab closed too soon | Upload never completes, no link appears | Keep the tab open until you see the link |
Too many files or too much data
Every share on shareit.onl holds up to 10 files and 200 MB total. If your batch is bigger than that, the upload can't finish. This is the most frequent reason a transfer fails, especially with photos or video.
The fix is to trim your batch. Remove a few files, or split a large group into two smaller shares. If you need to move a big folder, our guide to sending large files online shows smart ways to break it into batches that fit.
Tip: Zipping a batch into one archive often slips under the 200 MB cap and counts as a single file, which is the quickest way to fit a folder into one share.
A dropped or shaky connection
Uploads need a steady link to your network. If your Wi-Fi flickers, you switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data mid-transfer, or you walk out of range, the upload can stall and then fail. A weak signal in a coffee shop or on a train is a common culprit.
To avoid this, upload from a stable network and stay put until the transfer is done. A wired connection or a strong Wi-Fi spot is ideal for larger files.
The browser tab closed
Your files upload while the tab is open. If you close it, switch apps and let your phone sleep, or your browser crashes before the link appears, the upload cannot finish. There's nothing to receive the file on the other end yet.
Keep the shareit.onl tab open and awake until you see the finished share link and QR code. Only then is it safe to leave.
Your fix-it checklist
Run through these steps in order. Most people are back on track within a minute.

What a failed upload does not mean
A failed upload can feel alarming, but here's what it does not mean:
- Your files are not lost. The originals never leave your device until the upload succeeds, so a failure leaves them untouched.
- You didn't break anything. There's no account to lock and no penalty for retrying as often as you need.
- It's not a payment problem. shareit.onl is free, so an upload never fails because of billing.
In short, a failure is just a signal to adjust one thing and try again.
When retrying doesn't help
If you've trimmed your batch, moved to solid Wi-Fi, kept the tab open, and it still won't upload, the issue may be your browser or a network firewall. Try these:
- Switch browsers (for example, from one to another you have installed).
- Disable a VPN or ad blocker that may block the transfer.
- Test on a different network, such as your phone's hotspot.
